Former CM of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal passed away: PM Modi paid homage
Former Punjab chief minister and Parkash Singh Badal passed away on Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was 95. The five-time former chief minister of Punjab was hospitalised in June last year also following complaints related to gastritis and bronchial asthma.
The veteran leader was admitted to the Fortis Hospital in Mohali more than a week ago after he complained of uneasiness while breathing.
PM Narendra Modi paid homage to late leader in Chandigarh. Before that he wrote, "Extremely saddened by the passing away of Shri Parkash Singh Badal Ji. He was a colossal figure of Indian politics, and a remarkable statesman who contributed greatly to our nation. He worked tirelessly for the progress of Punjab and anchored the state through critical times", in twitter.
The Centre on Tuesday declared two-day national mourning following the demise of former Punjab CM and Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal.
In a wireless message (notification) to all the state governments and Union Territory administrations, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, “Shri Parkash Singh Badal, former Chief Minister of Punjab passed away on 25thApril, 2023. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be state mourning for two days on 26thand 27thApril, 2023 throughout India.”
